      • The Legacy of The Stiwt Theatre

        About us.

      • History

A home for arts, entertainment and community, The Stiwt Theatre is rooted in the mining heritage of the Wrexham area. Built by the Miners’ Welfare Organisation, its name comes from Institute, reflecting the sacrifices of local miners who helped fund the theatre during the hardships of the 1920s.

Opened in 1926, the theatre flourished until its closure in 1977, mirroring the decline of the mining industry. Once facing demolition, a community-led effort saw 3,000 people come together to save and restore their beloved theatre. Now a Grade II listed building, The Stiwt has entered a new era.

Run by The Stiwt Arts Trust Ltd, the theatre offers a varied programme of theatre, musicals, comedy and tribute acts, serving Wrexham and beyond. It is also a welcoming home for community groups, training, and creative development.

The Stiwt Theatre welcomes everyone to learn, create and be entertained. Come and be part of our story.

        Morning Worship Service

A typical service includes singing, praying, reading the Bible, and preaching. While Pastor Josh usually leads aloud in prayer, he often provides time for anyone to share a request or burden for prayer.

If you wish to follow along with the Bible reading and preaching, church Bibles are available for your use.

Our services are family friendly and often include a children’s talk.

After the service we enjoy a time to chat and have a cup of tea or coffee.
