Ysgol Penycae School visit - 18th October 2022

Year 3 and 4 pupils from Ysgol Penycae recently visited Theatr y Stiwt to find out more about the building and its history.

Mr Raymond Ellis was also present to give the children a first-hand account of his time as a miner at Bersham colliery.

Kirsten Dodd, the school's teacher, said –

“ Thank you very much for welcoming us to the Stiwt.

It was a wonderful experience for all the children and the school staff

The ‘PowerPoint’ was very interesting, and the children took it all in and asked some relevant questions!

The 'Tour behind the scenes' was very special, and there was so much excitement when the iron curtain went up and the children saw the auditorium for the first time!

They were very positive about their visit to the Stiwt and couldn't wait to tell their parents all about it at the end of the school day.

And a big thank you to (Uncle) Raymond Ellis for talking to us too. His stories were very interesting and the children were fascinated by him.

It was very touching to see his precious memorials and the fact that he allowed the children to handle them also showed great trust.

Everyone (children and staff) felt it was a real privilege to meet him, and we are grateful to him for coming to see us."

They also enjoyed a visit to Rhos Library that same morning. A very busy morning indeed!
